Change in kinder hours

18 Jul

There has been a discussion opened by bringing to parents attention the changes that the State Government are going to implement in 2013 to our Kinders across Victoria.

While I am very happy that this discussion has been opened and parents now have some information to act on, I do apologise if it has made any one uncomfortable.

My intention is to direct people to what is going to happen and it is up to them to decide what to do with that information. I would suggest that the more people that know about issues facing kinder, the more input parents may offer.

Please take a look at the information that the State Government has published so you can decide for yourself if you agree or disagree.

It is my obligation as a parent to be an advocate for my children and this is an issue for me, so I am sure it will be an issue for many other parents that know nothing about these changes. I share this information as a parent that has no authority from the Kinder Committee to do so.

So I urge you, please offer your support and ask questions as our kinder needs as much input and support as it can get.

Save Kinder for our kids

15 Jul

In 2013, Kindergartens all over Victoria will be changed for ever. The State Government wants to increase the minimum hours for 4 year old kinder to 15 hours per week (currently 10 3/4 hours per week).

For the facilities that have the space it is great news, but for the smaller facilities that also run 3 year old kinder, it will be a major problem.

The reality is that a lot of facilities will loose the ability to have 3 year old kinder which is not compulsory, but very beneficial to introduce young children to the education system. Not only will many kinder sessions be cancelled, but we will lose the teachers.

Please send us a message and let us know your thoughts. We will put your responses together and submit them to the State government to petition their proposed action.

You can see more about it on the State Government Victoria site.

Take A Break Occasional Care- Funding Cut.

6 Jul
A victim of the government budget cuts, Take A Break Occasional Care Centres may now face closure once funding stops at the end of the year.  Used by thousands of families each week, our community needs them and are passionate in trying to reinstate the funding.
Jac and I  utilise our local  facility and know they provide excellent childcare  and a great place to nurture and grow community spirit.  Please show your support in helping us keep over 220 community based occasional childcare centres across Victoria open and affordable for all.
